OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The UNLV men's swimming and diving team swept both relays on the first day of action on Wednesday at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Complex. UNLV stands in third on the men's side, and the women are eighth in the women's standings.

The 22nd-ranked Rebel men, who are looking to win a sixth straight league championship, did not bring any divers to the meet and thus did not score in the night's first event, the men's 3-meter board, allowing BYU to take an early lead with 65 total team points from the event. UNLV quickly cut into the Cougars lead by winning the other two events of the night, the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.

David Seiler, Andrew Morrell, Cody Roberts and Steven Nelms teamed up to post a new conference record time of 1:26.09 in the 200 medley, giving UNLV a win in the event for the second straight year and ninth overall in the 11-year history of the MWC. The time was also a NCAA 'B' provisional time. The Rebels finished off the night by claiming the 800 free relay title for the fifth straight year. Kyle Virva, Calan Eldridge, Tyler Bush and Kier Maitland touched the wall in 6:30.47, also a 'B' cut and the third-fastest in school history.

BYU leads the team standings on the men's side after the first day with 125 points, while Wyoming is second with 94 and UNLV third with 80. Rounding out the men's field is TCU in fourth (79), Air Force in fifth (71) and Utah in sixth (60).

On the women's side, the Rebels' 200 medley relay squad of Ana Dangalakova, Kelsey Clarke, Emma Gustafsson and Megan Clark turned in a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:42.52, which is the third-fastest time in UNLV history. The Rebels' 800 free relay team meanwhile was disqualified and did not score in the event.

BYU is atop the women's standings with 133 points, a 24-point edge over second-place Wyoming (109). In third is San Diego State with 81, while Utah is fourth (74), New Mexico fifth (63), Colorado State sixth (61), TCU seventh (54), UNLV eighth (30) and Air Force is ninth with 18 points.

The four-day meet continues tomorrow, and will conclude on Saturday.
