UNLV-Temple Media Notes
SCHEDULE NOTE: The series between UNLV and Temple has been changed due to the chance of inclement weather on Saturday. The Rebels and Owls will play a doubleheader on Friday, with game times at 3:00 p.m. (PT) and 7:00 p.m. at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The two teams will then play on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and the series will conclude on Sunday, with the first pitch of that game scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
LEADING OFF
UNLV (2-2, 0-0 Mountain West Conference) looks to build on a two-game winning streak when it hosts Temple (0-3, 0-0 Atlantic 10 Conference) in a four-game series at Earl E. Wilson Stadium that gets underway with a doubleheader on Friday, with games at 3:00 p.m. (PT) and 7:00 p.m. It is a change from the original schedule, and the switch was made due to the threat of bad weather. The Rebels and Owls will then play on Saturday at 2:00 p.m and the two squads will wrap up the series on Sunday, with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. Live stats and a live video stream of all four games will be available at www. UNLVRebels.com, and the four games will wrap up an eight-game homestand to open the 2010 season. After dropping its first two games of the season, the Rebels have won their last two, including an 11-inning, 5-4 win over visiting Southern Utah on Tuesday night. Nolan Clark had the game-winning hit, a one-out one-run single that scored Richie Jimenez.
REBELS AT A GLANCE
For the second time in four games the Rebels went to 11 innings in a game, beating Southern Utah 5-4 on Tuesday night at Wilson Stadium ... UNLV's season opener went 11 innings as well, the first opener to go extra innings since the 2004 season opener, when UNLV lost at Cal State Fullerton, 9-8, in 11 innings on Feb. 6, 2004 ... Runs have not been hard to come by for the Rebels, as they have scored a total of 36 runs over four games, including 18 in winning the final game of the set against Sacramento State on Sunday ... UNLV is hitting .312 as a team after four games, with seven home runs, seven doubles and 30 RBI ... Travis Feiner leads the UNLV regulars with a .357 (5-14) average in four starts ... UNLV has a .409 on-base percentage and a .494 slugging percentage, but despite all the offense the Rebels do not have a stolen base ... UNLV right-hander Brady Zuniga has made a strong debut out of the bullpen, striking out seven batters, giving up one hit and not allowing a run in two appearances and 2.2 innings of work ... UNLV is in its seventh season under head coach Buddy Gouldsmith, who has a career record of 175-190 (.479), and his 174 victories are the second most in school history.
OWLS AT A GLANCE
Temple comes into the series looking for its first win of 2010 following a three-game sweep at Florida Gulf Coast University last weekend in Fort Myers, Fla. ... The Owls lost by scores of 10-0, 14-1 and 15-6, and it was the start of an 11-game road trip to open up the season for Temple ... As a team the Owls are hitting .245 and have two home runs and seven RBI ... On the mound Temple has posted a team ERA 12.75 with 25 walks against 14 strikeouts ... Temple is in its fifth year under head coach Rob Valli, who is 74-143 (.341) with the Owls and 299-202 (.597) in his 10th year overall as a head coach.
