Rebels Hit The Road

LEADING OFF
UNLV (6-2, 0-0 Mountain West Conference) will put a six-game winning streak on the line when it plays on the road for the first time in 2010, heading to Arizona (3-2, 0-0 Pac-10 Conference) for a two-game series at Frank Sancet Field. The midweek series gets underway Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. (PT), with the second game of the series on Wednesday at noon. The Rebels have rebounded from losing their first two games of the year to win the last six games, all of them at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, wrapping up a 6-2 homestand to start the year. UNLV swept a four-game series from visiting Temple this past weekend, winning by scores of 22-6, 10-8, 10-9 and 12-10 in a high-scoring series that featured 55 hits and a total of 54 runs by the Rebels.

UNLV improved its record to 6-2 by sweeping Temple in a four-game set this past weekend at Earl E. Wilson Stadium ... The victories extended the Rebels' winning streak to six games ... UNLV's season opener went 11 innings, the first opener to go extra innings since the 2004 season opener, when UNLV lost at Cal State Fullerton, 9-8, in 11 innings on Feb. 6, 2004 ... Runs have not been hard to come by for the Rebels, as they have scored a total of 90 through eight games, including 18 on Feb. 21 against Sacramento State and 22 against Temple on Feb. 26 ... UNLV is hitting .338 as a team, with 10 home runs, 14 doubles and 76 RBI ... Cash Thomas leads the UNLV regulars with a .444 (12-27) average while Drew Beuerlein is hitting .438 (14-32) with four doubles and 10 RBI ... R.J. Arnold and Jarred Frierson have each hit three home runs for the Rebels ... UNLV closer Matt Hutchison is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA and also has a pair of saves in six appearances, striking out 14 and not walking a batter in 7.1 innings of work ... UNLV is in its seventh season under head coach Buddy Gouldsmith, who has a career record of 179-190 (.485), and his 179 victories are the second most in school history.

WILDCATS AT A GLANCE
Arizona has lost its last two games, dropping a pair to visiting Long Beach State this past weekend by scores of 8-7 and 10-3 ... The series was scheduled for three games but rain washed out Sunday's matchup ... The Wildcats opened the year by sweeping three games from Utah Valley ... As a team UA is hitting .326 with four home runs and eight doubles and is being paced by Steve Selsky, who is hitting .500 (11-22) ... On the mound Arizona has posted a team ERA 4.89 with 47 strikeouts against 14 walks ... Arizona is in its 10th year under head coach Andy Lopez, who is 285-186-1 (.601) with the Wildcats and is 972-604-7 (.616) in his 30th year overall as a collegiate head coach.
