Rebels Fall To Matadors

March 16, 2010

Final Stats

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - UNLV baseball fell behind early and could not rally, losing on the road to Cal State Northridge, 13-7, in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Matador Field.

The Matadors scored the game's first 10 runs and that proved to be too much for the Rebels to overcome, as they fell to 13-6 on the year, with starter Glenn DeWeese taking the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits in three innings. CSN improved to 9-6 overall, with starter Alex Muren earning the win, as he allowed five runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings of work.

CSN got on the board first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second, and never looked back, getting another run in the third and then three more in both the fourth and fifth innings to jump out to a 10-0 lead.

Drew Beuerlein drove in the Rebels' first two runs of the game with a two-run single in the sixth, and in the seventh Nolan Clark and Hunter Beaty drove in runs with singles as part of a three-run rally. But the Matadors also scored runs over those two innings, keeping UNLV a safe distance away on the scoreboard.

Beuerlein opened the eighth inning by drilling a home run down the left-field line and Clark drove in another run to cap the scoring on the afternoon.

UNLV will return home for a three-game series with Long Beach State that begins Friday evening at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, with the first pitch set for 7:00 p.m. (PT).
