UNLV at Nevada, Reno Game Notes

UNLV (15-10, 1-2 Mountain West) closes out a four-game road by traveling to play in-state rival Nevada, Reno in a non-conference tilt that gets underway at 4:00 p.m. (PT) on Tuesday at Peccole Park in Reno. Rebel senior left-hander Glenn DeWeese will start on the mound, and he brings a 1-1 record with a 3.95 ERA into the afternoon game with the Wolf Pack, and fans can follow the action live by going to www.UNLVRebels.com and clicking on the live stats link. The four-game road trip marks the longest of the season thus far for the Rebels, who opened with 19 of their first 22 games at the friendly confines of Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas. UNLV is looking to carry the momentum of winning the final of a three-game set at BYU last week, as the Rebels scored six runs in the eighth inning en route to an 11-5 win over the Cougars on Saturday in Provo, Utah. UNLV dropped the first two games of the series to BYU, in what was the Mountain West Conference opener for the Rebels.

REBELS AT A GLANCE
UNLV improved its record to 15-10 by winning the final of a three-game set at BYU last week ... The three games with the Cougars were the first in Mountain West Conference play for the Rebels this season ... Runs have not been hard to come by for the Rebels, as they have scored a total of 225 through 25 games, including 18 on Feb. 21 against Sacramento State and 22 against Temple on Feb. 26 ... UNLV has played in three extra-inning games this season, starting with its season opener that went 11 innings, the first opener to go extras since the 2004 season opener, when UNLV lost at Cal State Fullerton, 9-8, in 11 innings on Feb. 6, 2004 .. UNLV is hitting .328 as a team, with 22 home runs, 60 doubles and 197 RBI ... Brandon Bayardi leads the UNLV regulars with a .391 (43-110) average, and the freshman has hit 11 doubles and driven in 25 runs ... Although his 17-game hitting streak came to an end Friday, UNLV senior Drew Beuerlein is hitting .383 (41-107) with four home runs with a team-high 32 RBI ... Freshman third baseman R.J. Arnold is pacing the team with six home runs ... UNLV right-hander Matt Hutchison is 3-0 with a 2.39 ERA and also has four saves in 11 appearances, striking out 31 and walking six in 16.1 innings of work ... Hutchison, who has made two consecutive starts, actually opened the season as the team's closer ... UNLV is in its seventh season under head coach Buddy Gouldsmith, who has a career record of 188-198 (.487), and his 188 victories are the second most in school history.

Nevada, Reno is in the middle of an eight-game homestand which it opened by taking two-of-three from visiting UC Irvine this past weekend ...
