LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore Tanner Peters was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, following a dominating complete-game shutout of Utah last Friday night. This is the second time in his career that Peters has earned the MWC's weekly honor.
Peters led the Rebels to a 6-0 victory over the Utes in the opener of a three-game Mountain West Conference series at Spring Mobile Stadium. He was brilliant on the mound, allowing just five hits and striking out 10 Ute batters against just one walk. Just three times in the game did a Utah runner reach second base and Peters got stronger as the game wore on, as he retired the last 13 batters he faced.
It marked the second time in his career that Peters tossed a complete-game shutout, as he accomplished the feat as a freshman last year against Northern Colorado on April 17. Following that performance Peters was named the Co-MWC Pitcher of the Week, his first weekly honor.
The MWC Player of the Week was Rafael Neda of New Mexico.
