UNLV at Tulane Game Notes
LEADING OFF
UNLV (20-13, 5-4 MWC) continues its longest road trip of the season, traveling to New Orleans for a three-game non-conference series with Tulane (21-13, 5-4 CUSA) that gets underway Friday night at Turchin Stadium, with the first pitch set for 4:30 p.m. (PT). Game two of the series will be Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m., with the final game of the series scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m. Fans can listen to a live radio broadcast of the series opener on KSHP 1400 AM, while fans can follow along live via Gametracker by going to www.UNLVRebels.com. The Rebels are in a middle of a nine-game road trip that got started in strong fashion with a three-game sweet at Utah last weekend, and it was the first road sweep of a Mountain West Conference opponent for UNLV since the 2007 season. Following the trip to Tulane, the Rebels will then wrap up the road trip with a three-game series at TCU (April 23-25). UNLV's road trip was originally scheduled to be 10 games, but its game at Southern Utah this week was canceled due to poor weather. UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith spent four years as the hitting instructor and third base coach at Tulane (1998-2001).

Runs have not been hard to come by for the Rebels, as they have scored a total of 273 through 33 games, including 18 on Feb. 21 against Sacramento State and 22 against Temple on Feb. 26 ... That is an average of 8.3 runs per game ... UNLV has played in three extra-inning games this season, starting with its season opener that went 11 innings, the first opener to go extras since the 2004 season opener, when UNLV lost at Cal State Fullerton, 9-8, in 11 innings on Feb. 6, 2004 .. UNLV is hitting .316 as a team, with 27 home runs, 69 doubles and 235 RBI ... Brandon Bayardi leads the UNLV regulars with a .387 (53-137) average, and the freshman has hit 15 doubles and driven in 32 runs ... Although his 17-game hitting streak came to an end on March 26, UNLV senior Drew Beuerlein is hitting .381 (51-134) with six home runs with a team-high 38 RBI ... Freshman third baseman R.J. Arnold has also slugged six home runs ... Starter Matt Hutchison is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA and also has four saves in 14 total appearances, striking out 38 and walking eight in 43.1 innings of work ... Hutchison, who has made four consecutive starts, actually opened the season as the team's closer ... UNLV is in its seventh season under head coach Buddy Gouldsmith, who has a career record of 193-201 (.490), and his 193 victories are the second most in school history.

Tulane has lost three games in a row following a 10-4 defeat at nationally-ranked LSU on Wednesday night and is 5-5 in its last 10 games heading into this weekend's series ... The Green Wave is hitting .306 as a team and leading the offense is Rob Segedin, who is hitting .408 (53-130) with seven home runs, 20 doubles and 33 RBI ... Blake Crohan (.368) and Brandon Boudreaux (.367) are also hitting at high averages at the plate ... Friday starter Conrad Flynn is 3-2 with a 3.44 ERA in eight starts, and he has struck out 44 batters and issued just nine walks in 55.0 innings of work ... Tulane is in its 17th season under coach Rick Jones, and he has a record of 694-344-2 (.668) and a career record of 970-433-3 (.691) in his 24th season as a collegiate head coach.
