UNLV at No. 8 TCU Game Notes
LEADING OFF
UNLV (21-15, 5-4 MWC) concludes its longest road trip of the season and will play against its first ranked opponent of the season when the Rebels travel to Fort Worth, Tex., for a three-game series with No. 8 TCU (27-8, 8-3 MWC). The series gets underway Friday at 4:30 p.m. (PT), while game two is Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and the finale is Sunday at 11:00 a.m. All three games of the series will be shown on the Mtn. (Cox Cable 334/DirecTV 616), with Friday's game being tape delayed until 6:30 p.m., while Saturday's and Sunday's games will be shown live. Fans can also listen live to Saturday's game on KSHP 1400 AM, while all three games will be available on Gametracker at www.UNLVRebels.com. The Rebels come into the series having lost two in a row, as they dropped the last two of a three-game series at Tulane last weekend. UNLV opened its road in strong fashion with a three-game sweep at Utah on April 9-11, and it was the first road sweep of a Mountain West Conference opponent for the Rebels since the 2007 season.

Runs have not been hard to come by for the Rebels, as they have scored a total of 280 through 36 games, including 18 on Feb. 21 against Sacramento State and 22 against Temple on Feb. 26 ... That is an average of 7.8 runs per game ... UNLV has played in three extra-inning games this season, starting with its season opener that went 11 innings, the first opener to go extras since the 2004 season opener, when UNLV lost at Cal State Fullerton, 9-8, in 11 innings on Feb. 6, 2004 .. UNLV is hitting .316 as a team, with 27 home runs, 69 doubles and 235 RBI ... Drew Beuerlein leads the UNLV regulars with a .379 (55-145) average ... He had a 17-game hitting streak earlier this season and he has hit six home runs with a team-high 38 RBI ... Freshman third baseman R.J. Arnold has also slugged six home runs while fellow rookie Brandon Bayardi is hitting .369 (55-149) and has hit 14 doubles and driven in 33 runs ... Sunday starter Matt Hutchison is 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA and also has four saves in 15 total appearances, striking out 43 and walking 12 in 48.0 innings of work ... Hutchison, who has made five consecutive starts, actually opened the season as the team's closer ... UNLV is in its seventh season under head coach Buddy Gouldsmith, who has a career record of 194-203 (.490), and his 194 victories are the second most in school history.
HORNED FROGS AT A GLANCE
TCU is ranked in every national poll, including as high as No. 8 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association poll ... The Horned Frogs had their seven-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday, dropping a non-conference road game at Oklahoma, 8-3 ... TCU had swept a three-game road MWC series at BYU before the loss on Tuesday night ... The Horned Frogs are hitting .338 as a team and leading the offense is Jason Coats, who is hitting .400 (60-150) with 11 home runs, 15 doubles and 40 RBI ... This weekend's starting rotation is a combined 16-0, with Saturday starter Kyle Winkler (6-0, 2.85 ERA) recently being named the MWC Pitcher of the Week on April 19 ... TCU is in its seventh season under head coach Jim Schlossnagle, and he has a record of 278-128 (.685) and an overall career record of 355-175 (.670) in his ninth season as a collegiate head coach.
