LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball student-athlete Matt Hutchison was selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, marking the 26th consecutive year that at least one Rebel was drafted.
Hutchison was taken in the 25th round by the Philadelphia Phillies with the 771st overall pick of the draft.
Hutchison had a productive senior campaign for the Rebels, starting the year in the bullpen as the team's closer before moving to the starting rotation a few weeks into the season. He went 6-4 with a 4.46 ERA and four saves in 23 appearances, including 11 starts. Hutchison, a native of Palmdale, Calif., struck out 62 batters and walked 28 in 78.2 innings of work, and he tossed a complete game at Utah on April 11.
Overall the MLB draft began Monday night and it will conclude Wednesday with rounds 31-50.
