CAMP REBEL (UNLVRebels.com) - After meetings and some lifting, the UNLV football team hit the field just once on Friday for a three-hour afternoon session.
The Rebels sported an unusual look for Friday the 13th as the team wore white game pants instead of the usual gray, making the red-topped defenders especially stand out.
Director of Equipment Paul Pucciarelli quickly confirmed, however, that the white pants held no significance other than being another set of available pants to get the players through Camp Rebel.
QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS
Head coach Bobby Hauck was asked following practice about senior Omar Clayton (Normal, IL/Normal Community HS) getting the bulk of the work today while redshirt freshman Caleb Herring (Moreno Vallye, CA/Citrus Hill HS) was rarely part of the team drills. Hauck said not to read anything into it -- that it was only the practice rotation for this day.
"By the end of this (evaluation period), I think all three (along with junior Mike Clausen (Riverside, CA/North HS)) will have almost the same amount of reps," Hauck said.
ROOKIE REBS
While we continue to wait for the starting quarterback race to play out, Hauck did give a timetable on another personnel question.
Asked about the impressive outing of rookie defensive lineman Ian Bobak (Las Vegas/Bishop Gorman HS) on Friday, Hauck said the staff should make some decisions in the next five or six days about what freshmen would likely play this season as opposed to redshirting in 2010.
"It's a big decision made off of what is usually not enough time to gather information, really. You need to be sure."
UP NEXT
After a dinner of salmon, pork roast, mac and cheese and potatoes, the team headed into meetings and film study before Satuday's double days.
There is no scrimmage scheduled for this weekend's work. The only team scrimmage will be August 21, the final day of off-campus training.
