LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which kicked off Wednesday and runs through October 15, UNLV Intercollegiate Athletics and ISP Sports will be holding a "Rules of American Football" clinic next week, as well as broadcasting two upcoming football games in Spanish in conjunction with ESPN Deportes.
The clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 4-6 p.m. at Rebel Park on campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch the UNLV football team practice while getting their questions about the sport answered. However, space is limited. Reserve a spot at the clinic by calling Rosa Guzman at 895-3207 or e-mailing her at rosa.guzman@unlv.edu. The event is sponsored by Findlay Toyota, Wells Fargo, Findlay Acura, De Castroverde Law Group, Original Tommy's Hamburgers, Sierra Mist and ESPN Deportes.
In addition to their usual home on ESPN 1100 AM and 98.9 FM, UNLV's Sept. 25 home game vs. New Mexico and the Oct. 2 home game vs. Nevada, Reno will both be broadcast live in Spanish on ESPN Deportes 1460 AM. Martin Romero will do the play-by-play for the first game while Ralph Sotelo will be on the microphone during the Battle for the Fremont Cannon. Adding his analysis for both games will be former UNLV record-setting place-kicker Sergio Aguayo, who played for the Rebels from 2004-07.
Also, for the first time, UNLV produced football schedule cards this season completely in Spanish.
"These initiatives are a great way for UNLV to reach out to a segment of the Southern Nevada community that may not be familiar with Rebel football," said UNLV Director of Athletics Jim Livengood.
