DENVER (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in double-dual meet action on Friday in Denver, with the 16th-ranked Rebel men posting a pair of wins over Denver (141-138) and Air Force (179-114). The UNLV women meanwhile lost to Denver 176-121 but posted a 220-71 conference victory over Air Force.
In the men's competition, the Rebels (6-1, 3-0 MWC) posted the fastest swim in a total of nine events over the two opponents. Most importantly, UNLV claimed both relay events, beginning with the 200 medley relay, as David Seiler, Andrew Morrell, Cody Roberts and Steven Nelms swam a time of 1:30.52. Kyle Virva, Nelms, Charlie Tapp and Calan Eldridge meanwhile won the 400 free relay in 3:01.31. Roberts also was a double-event winner for UNLV, turning in victories in the 100 back (50.99) and in the 100 fly (48.53).
Other individual event winners included John Mendoza in the 1000 free (9:37.35), David Szele in the 100 breast (55.89), Tapp in the 50 free (20.45), Virva in the 100 free (45.70) and Andrew Morrell in the 200 breast (2:03.81).
The Rebel women (5-6, 4-2 MWC) won a total of five individual events and one relay on the day. Alexandra Bejinriu claimed the first event for UNLV, the 200 fly in 2:06.82, while Rachel Dixon posted a time of 23.75 in the 50 free to place first. Other winners were Jessica Heim in the 500 free (5:09.14), Orsolya Tompa in the 100 fly (56.75), and Rachelle Zuccaro on the 1-meter board (257.65). The Rebels' 400 free relay squad of Orsolya, Katelyne Herrington, Lisa Gillespie and Lara Sreibers would win in a time of 3:30.87.
UNLV stays on the road to face Wyoming in Laramie on Saturday at 11 am PST.
