LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams both came out on top in a total of three dual meets on Saturday afternoon at Buchanan Natatorium. The 16th-ranked Rebel men moved to 8-1 with a 160.5-99.5 victory over UC Santa Barbara. UNLV's women improved to 7-7 with a pair of victories, 199-95 over Northern Arizona and 161-137 over UCSB.
On the men's side, the Rebels won overall victories in a total of 10 events. Leading the way was sophomore Cody Roberts, with victories in the 100 back (49.74) and the 100 fly (48.55). Single event winners included John Mendoza in the 1000 free (9:37.64), Kyle Virva in the 200 free (1:40.85), David Seiler in the 100 breast (55.98), Andrew Morrell in the 200 breast (2:04.61), Kier Maitland in the 500 free (4:#6.24), and Brandon Meier in the 400 IM (4:06.83).
UNLV swept both men's relays, beginning with the 200 medley, as Seiler, Morrell, Roberts and Stephen Nelms posted a time of 1:29.91 to place first. Nelms, Charlie Tapp, Roberts and Virva teamed up to win the 200 free relay, touching the wall in 1:20.91.
For the Rebel women, five would claim overall individual wins. Lara Sreibers touched first in the 200 free in 1:53.31. Megan Clark posted a victory in the 50 free, 24.18, while Orsolya Tompa swam a winning time of 55.50 in the 100 fly. UNLV swept both diving events, with Mariah Skeen posting a score of 291.23 on the 1-meter, while Rachelle Zuaccaro won the 3-meter event with a score of 299.70. UNLV's Rachel Dixon, Lisa Gillespie, Katelynne Herrington and Clark won the day's first event, the 200 medley relay, with a swim of 1:45.40.
The Rebels close out the regular season by hosting Utah on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 2 pm.
