Sanford Named MW Co-Player of the Week

Nov. 22, 2011

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Lenita Sanford was named the Mountain West Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after leading the Lady Rebels to a 2-0 week, the league office announced on Monday. Sanford earns player of the week honors for the first time in her career, and is the second Lady Rebel in as many weeks to be honored, as Kelli Thompson was named in the first week. Sanford shared this week's award with Courtney Clements of San Diego State.

Sanford, a 6-3 senior and native of Inglewood, Calif., posted back-to-back double-doubles during the week, the first two of her career, in a 28-point win over UC Riverside and a 37-point win over San Jose State. Against UCR on Nov. 16, Sanford scored a career-high 22 points and added 10 rebounds. With UNLV holding a five-point halftime lead, Sanford poured in UNLV's first eight points of the second half, helping to spark a 33-6 run to blow the game open.

In the win over San Jose State on Nov. 19, Sanford finished the game shooting 5-of-7 from the floor on the way to 17 points and 11 rebounds. She also tied a career-high with four blocks in the game.

UNLV, 4-0 on the year, returns to action on Tuesday at 5 pm hosting UTSA in the Thomas & Mack Center.
