) - The UNLV baseball team kicks off the 2011 season, hosting the University of Maine for a four-game set this weekend at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

Friday night's season opener marks the beginning of the Tim Chambers era as the long-time Las Vegas baseball coach looks to restore the Rebel program. UNLV was picked fifth in the preseason Mountain West Conference poll with sophomore Brandon Bayardi earning a selection by the coaches to the All-MWC preseason squad.

Throwing out the first pitch before Friday night's game will be former Rebel head coach Fred Dallimore. Dallimore coached UNLV from 1974-96, racking up 794 wins in the process, registering 19 .500 or better seasons in 23 years and 19 30-win seasons in a span of 21 years. UNLV won 40 or more games eight times during his tenure, including a school-record 53 victories in 1980.

The Rebels will continue the weekend series with a schedule double header Saturday, Feb. 19 with game one starting at 2:05 p.m. and game to to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. UNLV and Maine will round out the season-opening weekend with a Sunday matinee starting at 1:05 p.m. First pitch Friday night is slated for 6:05 p.m. at Wilson Stadium.
