Rebels Finish Strong in Hawaii

- The UNLV women's golf wrapped up final-round action at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii today, shooting a final round 295 (+7), finishing in fourth place among the 19-team field.

No. 9 Arizona State took team honors by 15 strokes over second-place and sixth-ranked Arizona. No. 21 Notre Dame took third, four strokes ahead of the Rebels. Nevada, Reno rounded out the top five, 10 strokes behind UNLV.

"We played great today," said first-year head coach Amy Bush. "Therese picked up a top-five finish and Ellis had just a great golfing day. Her putter is working for her and she is playing with a ton of confidence and it showed out on the course throughout the day."

UNLV senior Therese Koelbaek picked up her first top-five finish of the spring after posting a 1-over par round of 73 today. Koelbaek was even through 17 but finished with a bogey on the par-5 third to cap her day, moving up three spots on the lead board from yesterday.

Ellis Keenan made the biggest jump of the day, moving up 27 spots after tying for the lowest round of the day at 1-over par. Keenan bogeyed the first two holes of the round before rattling off three birdies on the back nine, including two in a three-hole stretch. The sophomore London, England native picked up her first top-20 finish this season and helped the Rebels turn in the lowest team total of the day.

Alejandra Guacaneme was the third Rebel to collect a top-20 finish in Hawaii, tying for 19th place after turning in her lowest round of the tournament - a 2-over par 74. Guacaneme was three-over before birdying the par-3 sixth to get to 2-over.

Carlota Ciganda (Arizona State) took home medalist honors, finishing the tournament as the only player under par at 1-under. Alejandra Llaneza (Arizona) shot a 1-over par round, finishing at even par for the tournament and in second place. Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro was third with a final total of 3-over par, two shots ahead of Koelbaek.

The Rebels will resume action next week, traveling to San Diego for The Battle at Rancho Bernardo, March 20-22.
