LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Practice No. 12 for the UNLV football team this spring was a Saturday scrimmage that -- much like a certain TV bunny -- kept going and going.
With just a Tuesday and Thursday practice remaining until the big Spring Showcase on April 2 (scrimmage begins at 10 a.m.), head coach Bobby Hauck said his team needs all the work it can get as he led the squad through approximately 115 plays at a very windy and unseasonably cool Rebel Park.
"We need to play," he said. "We need as many live plays as we can get. We were able to hold up physically and didn't get anyone hurt so the more the better. This is a young team that has not played together a lot and every live rep is valuable."
ON THE SIDELINES
Saturday's scrimmage capped off the staff's annual two-day coaches' clinic so the crowd watching on Saturday was larger than normal. Among the numerous visitors was 2007-08 UNLV crowd-favorite Frank "The Tank" Summers. The former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, who recently signed a free-agent deal with the San Diego Chargers, said he is planning on making Las Vegas his home in the off-season and is anxiously awaiting for labor peace in the NFL so he can get back on the field.

The Rebels return to the field for practice on Tuesday and Thursday before the spring-ending showcase on Saturday.
