Rebels Host Youth Service Event

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Student-athletes from the UNLV football, baseball, and the entire women's soccer team including staff will be on hand Saturday to help the athletic department host the 23rd annual Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) at Rebel Park on the UNLV campus. Up to 300 students from After-School All-Stars Las Vegas and Special Olympics of Nevada are expected to participate in the event, which will run from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The GYSD event will feature numerous sports and wellness stations hosted by the UNLV athletes and department staff members. Each station will be designed to educate youth struggling from at-risk backgrounds and/or physical disabilities about the importance of fitness and nutrition. They participants will also learn about the benefits of teamwork and respect. All those involved will receive meals provided by Three Square Food Bank. The keynote address will be provided by head women's soccer coach Jen Klein and assistant head football coach J.D. Williams.

The presenting sponsor for the GYSD event is State Farm®, while other groups providing support include UnitedHealth Group, Sodexo Foundation, Walt Disney company, National Education Association, the Corporation for National and Community Service, Special Olympics and the U.S. Department of Education.
