Box Score

CEDAR CITY, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team battled back from a 10-1 deficit after six innings, but could not finish the comeback, falling 13-11 to Southern Utah University here this afternoon at Thunderbird Park.

Travis Feiner was one of five Rebels to record a multi-hit game, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Trent Cook extended his hitting streak to 18 games with a single to left in the fourth inning, pushing the longest streak by a Rebel this season another game.

The Rebels (25-18, 4-10 Mountain West) feel behind early after the Thunderbirds scored at least two runs in each of the first four innings.

SUU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first following a Bo Cuthbertson solo home run off starter Cory Ginther (0-1) and an RBI single from Kevin Nay.

The T-Birds tacked on two more in the second and three in the third before extending their lead to 9-0 after four complete innings.

Casey Sato drew a leadoff walk to open the fifth and advanced to third on Feiner's double down the left-field line. A Trevor Kirk sacrifice fly to right field scored Sato and put UNLV on the scoreboard at 9-1.

Southern Utah answered in the bottom half of the fifth, pushing the lead back to nine at 10-1 following Cuthbertson's sacrifice fly to left field.

Feiner started the late UNLV rally in the seventh with the first of his two home runs on the day, this one a solo shot to center field that brought the score to 10-2. Richie Jimenez doubled to left center while Kirk was hit by a pitch to put Rebels on first and second with one out. Cook's sacrifice fly to left scored Jimenez while Kirk scored on a wild pitch two batters later to close the gap to 10-4.

The Thunderbirds put up two runs in the bottom half the frame off Mitchell Kauweloa's two-run homer to left field, making it a 12-4 game.

UNLV would tack on three more in the eighth and four more in the top of the ninth, closing the gap to 13-11, but the deficit was too much to overcome as SUU was able to hold on in the final inning to earn the midweek win.

UNLV will be back in action this coming weekend, opening up a weekend series with New Mexico at home. First pitch in Friday night's series opener is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Wilson Stadium.
