LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team dropped its third straight game, falling to Sacred Heart University, 6-3, here tonight at Wilson Stadium in the series opener.

Tanner Peters (5-2) suffered just his second loss of the season after giving up 10 hits and six runs, including tying a season-high with three earned runs while striking out four and walking three Pioneer batters. Trent Cook led the Rebels from the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI on the night.

Sacred Heart (13-14) took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first off J.J. Edwards' RBI groundout to first that scored Steve Tedesco.

UNLV (19-12, 2-6 Mountain West) would answer in the bottom half of the inning when Hunter Beaty tripled down the right-field line and scored one batter later on Cook's single to right.

The Rebels took a 3-1 lead following a two-run second inning. Scott Berke's walk was followed by a Richie Jimenez single to left field. Both runners advanced on a Troy Scribner balk before Danny Higa's groundout to short scored Berke. Casey Sato doubled down the right-field line, scoring Jimenez to round out the inning for UNLV.

After a scoreless third inning, the SHU bats exploded for a four-run fourth, regaining the lead at 5-3. Back-to-back singles by Edwards and Rob Griffith put runners on first and second with no outs. Beaty's fielding error at second allowed John Murphy to reach and Edwards to score from second. Conor Mcevoy singled to load the bases before Derick Horn's base knock to center evened the game at 3-3. With the bases still loaded, Peters walked M.J. Schifano, allowing Murphy to score the go-ahead run. Tedesco's sacrifice fly to right field capped the scoring for the Pioneers in the fourth.

UNLV had its chances in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, leaving the bases loaded in consecutive innings and stranding two aboard in another. The Rebels stranded a total of 14 runners on the night.

SHU tacked on one in the seventh to extend its lead to 6-3 and held off a late Rebel rally in the ninth to pick up their 10th road win of the season.
