Mountain West Conference Championship Game Notes

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com)
- The UNLV baseball team travels to San Diego, Calif., this week for the 2011 Mountain West Conference Championship Tournament. The Rebels enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will open up action against fourth-seeded San Diego State Tuesday night.

UNLV (33-23, 10-13 Mountain West) and San Diego State will play for the fourth time in six days come Tuesday night in the second game of the opening day at the 2011 MWC Championship Tournament.

The Rebels dropped two of three games to the Aztecs last week in the regular-season series finale played in Las Vegas. After taking game on 4-3 on Scott Dysinger's walk-off double, UNLV fell 11-4 in game two and was shutout for the first time all year in Saturday's rubber match, 6-0.

Tanner Peters (9-3, 1.36 ERA) will take the hill for UNLV Tuesday night with several Mountain West Conference records within reach. The junior righty is tied for the most complete games in a single season and career, and is also tied for the most career shutout wins with former San Diego State Aztec and 2009 MLB No. 1 overall selection Stephen Strasburg.

The Rebels and Aztecs will get underway Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m. PT from Tony Gwynn Stadium.
