CAMP REBEL (UNLVRebels.com) - Following somewhat of a rest day on Sunday, the UNLV football team picked up action with a scheduled double session here today at Camp Rebel.

The half-pad morning session was followed by an intense afternoon full-padded practice that showed promise on both sides of the ball.

Sophomore Caleb Herring, who was named the starting quarterback heading into UNLV's season-opener in Madison against 11th-ranked Wisconsin, twice found the end zone during an early red zone period.

On the receiving end of those passes were freshman and Las Vegas native Taylor Spencer and senior preseason All-Mountain West selection Phillip Payne. Payne lead the team in receiving yards (689) and tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions (5) in 11 games played.

SCRIMMAGE NOTES

Freshman Fred Wilson continues to show his athletic ability in the defensive backfield, breaking up four passes on the day, all in the red zone.

Junior transfer Sean Reilly hurled a pair of touchdown passes on the day, finding Mark Barefield inside the red zone and Irshad Stolden on a 25-yard strike down the sideline.

Linebacker and junior college transfer Princeton Jackson stepped up his already impressive fall camp with several big plays from his linebacker position. Jackson made totaled several tackles during the team period and flashed his coverage ability, adding a pass break up.

The Rebels will be back in action tomorrow with a single afternoon session scheduled at Camp Rebel. Wednesday will feature the team's final double session while Thursday will mark the final day of practice away from Las Vegas.
