LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The 36th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team opened its 2012 dual-match season with a 6-1 win over New Mexico State in the first half of a Friday doubleheader at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Lady Rebels opened the morning meeting by taking two of three doubles matches for one team point. Aleksandra Josifoska and Nives Pavlovic downed Manon Sylvain and Denise Van Der Ben 8-3 at the top of the lineup while Rumyana Terzieva and Lucia Batta defeated Ginet Pinero and Ros-Polly Nguyen 8-1 at the third position.

Moving to singles play, the hosts got five sweeps. Josifoska, ranked 87th in the nation, eased by Sylvain 6-1, 6-4 at the first spot. Batta, ranked 121st, downed Van Der Ben 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2; Pavlovic outlasted Nguyen 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) at No. 3; de Lanlay defeated Natalia Salum 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5; and freshman Anett Ferenzci-Bako got her first dual win, 6-4, 6-3, over Jodie Williams at the bottom of the lineup.
