UNLV Press Conference Quotes

Aug. 31, 2012

UNLV Head Coach Bobby Hauck:

"Obviously those games like that are tough to lose. I thought that we played very well on defense. We were in some tough situations and rallied. In a triple overtime game the statistics get skewed, if you look at the numbers it doesn't look like you played well on that side of the ball. I thought we played well. We did some things on offense that gave us some hope."

"We put a lot into this game, just like they did. It's gut wrenching in our locker room and celebratory in theirs, so good for them. In general, we are proud of the effort, but not proud of the result."

On freshman QB Nick Sherry:

"I'm proud of him. He played in his first college football game and it happens to be at quarterback and gets us into a triple overtime game with a Big 10 outfit, which probably means the quarterback did some good stuff.

"We did some things that looked like we are inexperienced. A thing I think I can safely say at this point that it is a given that we are a hard-hitting physical football team that plays hard. The playing well part has to come."

"I was happy with our defense. We are finally playing defense here. Defense has not been synonymous with UNLV football, but we hope that it does become that. I thought tonight was a good first effort by a defense with one senior starter."

On junior RB Tim Cornett:

"I thought Tim did a nice job. I thought he was a warrior out there. I think we have a lot of that attitude in the locker room. These guys play with some passion and warlike mentality. He is one of those guys that wants it."
