LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Host UNLV saw both of its doubles team advance during Friday's opening day of the Larry Easley Memorial Classic, which is being played this weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Tamas Batyi and Willie Sublette downed Trevor Unger and Jordan Gobatie of NAU, 8-7, while Ace Matias and Denys Pume breezed past Tyler Bridges and Drew Forsyth of Seminole State College, 8-1.

In singles play, Sublette is the only Rebel to win both of his matches. Competing in Flight 2, he downed Alex Brown of SSC, 6-1, 6-4, before fighting off Matt Dunn of Arizona, 6-4, 7-5.

Action resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday with the first of two rounds of doubles. Admission is free of charge.

Players from seven other programs are competing in the individual event: Auburn, Arizona, Oregon, NAU, Grand Canyon, Idaho and Seminole (Okla.) State College.

The annual tournament was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
