LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball wrapped up its fall season with the third and final game of the Scarlet/Gray World Series at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on Saturday.

The Gray team won the series after Erik VanMeetren hit a three run homer in the top of the 11th to give his squad a 7-4 lead. VanMeetren finished with five hits in the game and was named the MVP of the fall classic.

Matt Thomas finished the game and earned the win, pitching the final 1.1 innings.

The Scarlet team overcame a 4-0 deficit by scoring two runs in the eighth and ninth innings to send the game into extra innings. T.J. White, Matt McCallister and Cody Howard all had two hits each to lead the Scarlett squad.

John Richy threw four strong innings for the Scarlet team, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four. Kenny Oakley also threw 4.0 innings for the Gray team, but did not allow any runs and struck out seven.

"It was a great ending to a really good fall season," associate head coach Stan Stolte said. "VanMeetren was lights out all three games and came up clutch every time he was put in certain situations. Richy and Oakley both performed well from the mound. The Scarlet team made a couple base running errors and didn't make a couple defensive plays, which cost them the game.

This concludes the fall season. The team will open its 2014 campaign at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on February 14 against Central Michigan.
