LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Two UNLV players, competing unattached, took part in Sunday's opening round of qualifying at the fifth annual Party Rock Open, a USTA Pro Circuit women's event being held at the Darling Tennis Center.
Senior standout Aleksandra Josifoska, who received a wild card to the qualifying round, won her opening match, 6-3, 6-3 over American Jessica Lawrence to move into Monday's second round.
Lady Rebel freshman Paola Artiga Henriquez, out of El Salvador, earned her spot in the field by winning prequalifying a week ago but fell in today's opener, 6-0, 6-1, to third-seeded American Sanaz Marand. Marand will now play Josifoska in round two.
The Party Rock Open is Las Vegas' only professional tennis tournament, and is named for LMFAO's Redfoo and his Party Rock franchise's title sponsorship. This year's tournament features an impressive global player field. Top seed Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic will be making her Party Rock Open debut fresh off capturing the U.S. Open Women's and Mixed doubles titles.
