Berman went a full three sets, and more, before finally falling to Rogerio Ribeiro of East Tennessee State, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-0). Berman will now move into the consolation bracket.
"Gilad played well and played hard and got a bit unlucky in falling just short today," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "Now he'll get another opportunity to play some quality competition in consolation."
Top Rebel Ace Matias will play in this event's main draw of singles beginning later this week.
