Cappuccilli Named Volunteer Assistant Coach

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Tony Cappuccilli joins UNLV baseball as the volunteer assistant coach, head coach Tim Chambers announced.

"We are really excited to have Tony join our staff," Chambers said. "He brings great energy to our program and has been a successful up-and-coming coach. He has a great attitude about being here and we are happy to give him an opportunity to be on a Division I coaching staff."

Cappuccilli, who is currently the head coach of the Anchorage Bucs in the Alaska Baseball League during the summer months, has spent time as an assistant coach in the Cape Cod League and at Irvine Valley College in the Orange Empire Conference.

The native of Huntington Beach, CA is a graduate of Nevada, Reno and help the Wolf Pack to a Big West Championship in 2000. He was a highly touted prep and an All-American in 1999 at Edison High School where he broke the Orange County career home run record. He played at UNR from 2000-03, while current associate head coach Stan Stolte was on the coaching staff, and batted .357 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI as a junior.

He continued playing for one year in the Frontier League for the Florence Freedom.

His first coaching gig was in 2004 at his alma mater Edison High School, where he spent one year before becoming the head coach at Trout Lake High School in Trout Lake, WA. He spent the 2005 season in The Evergreen State before returning to Edison High School, where he was an assistant coach from 2006-09. Cappuccilli helped the Chargers to Sunset League championships in 2007 and 2009. The team made it to the CIF finals in 2009, where he coached current Rebel junior Jon Torres.

Cappuccilli earned his Bachelor's degree from UNR in 2003 and got his Master's degree in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia.
