Oct. 13, 2014 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's soccer was rewarded by College Soccer News for its outstanding performances on the road this past weekend, as the Rebels were ranked No. 27 in this week's CSN's Top 30 Poll. Freshman
Danny Musovski meanwhile was also honored, selected to their Team Of The Week it was announced on Monday.
The Rebels stand at 9-2-1 on the season, their most wins since the 2002 season, and are alone in first place in the WAC at 3-0. They rose to the top of the league thanks to an impressive showing at regionally ranked conference foes Seattle and Utah Valley. UNLV began the weekend with a 3-1 win at the defending champions and preseason favorite Seattle Redhawks squad on Oct. 10. The win streak continued on Oct. 12 when the Rebels posted a 1-0 win at Utah Valley, the first home loss of the season for the Wolverines.
Musovski, a forward and native of Henderson, Nev., had a hand in all three goals in the win at Seattle. He notched the first goal of the game in the 14th minute, a header off a free kick from Julian Portugal. Musovski then assisted on the next score, a goal by Rodrigo Fuentes in the 31st minute. Just two minutes later Musovski increased UNLV's edge to 3-0 when off a breakaway he took on the goalie one-and-one before scoring to the left side. That was the first multi-goal game of his career, and gave him four scores in a four-goal span.
The Rebels return to action Friday with a 7 pm contest against Air Force at Peter Johann Memorial Field. It will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and all fans wearing pink will receive half price admission. It's also military appreciation night, and again half price admission for anyone with a military ID.
Friday will also see the Rebels' celebrate the 40th anniversary of the program. A special halftime recognition featuring players and coaches from throughout the program's history will be held.
