RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team kicked off the 2014-15 Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and sponsored by Barrick Gold the right way with a 3-0 sweep of the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack (5-12, 2-5 Mountain West) on the road Saturday afternoon. The Rebels (17-5, 5-2 MW) won the match behind set scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 and a bit of hot hitting and blocking around the net.

Dating back to 2006, the Scarlet & Gray has won 11 straight meetings against its northern rivals with six of those victories taking place at UNR's Virginia Street Gym.

UNLV outhit UNR by 283 points (.440-.157) with the help of three frames of .417 or better efficiencies in the match. "It feels great to get the first win in the Governor's Series," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "Our offense was firing on all cylinders with kudos to Bree (Hammel), Katlin (Winters) and Daryn (Glenn) today. We were able to hold their offense in check and did a good job of keeping (Tessa) Lea'ea's numbers low, which was important. It was a solid overall performance for the team today."

The Rebels' Bree Hammel and Daryn Glenn tied for the team high in kills with 10 apiece. Hammel, who hit at a .692 average with only one error in 13 swings, topped all players with five total blocks (one solo) to go along with three digs and one ace. Glenn hit at a .500 pace with two errors in 16 attempts. She added six digs, one ace and one assisted block.

Ceannia Kincade and Katlin Winters were also forces on both sides of the net. The former had nine kills with three digs, three assisted blocks and one ace compared to the latter's eight kills off a .667 hitting display (8-0-12) and four assisted blocks.

Alexis Patterson quarterbacked the Rebel offense with a match-best 35 assists. Patterson also chipped in three assisted blocks, three digs and two kills.

Allison Davies led the squad defensively with eight digs.

UNR was paced by 13 kills from Madison Foley - the only player to reach double figures in the match. The Wolf Pack split its setting duties between Taylar Rothfuss and Lyndsey Anderson, who had 16 and 12 assists, respectively. Madison Foley led all players with a match-high nine digs.

The Rebels remain on the road with a bout against San Diego State at Aztec Court in America's Finest City Monday evening (6:00 pm). The match will be streamed live in conjunction with the Mountain West Network and a link will be provided at UNLVRebels.com.
