Oct. 6, 2014 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's
Ryan Harding has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. This is the first weekly honor of Harding's career, and he is the third Rebel to earn weekly honors this season from the WAC, joining
Salvador Bernal (Offensive - Sept. 1) and
Kyle Mellies (Defensive - Sept. 8).
Harding, a senior goalkeeper from Troutdale, Ore., recorded a career-best fifth shutout of the season in helping the Rebels to a 3-0 win in their conference opener over Grand Canyon on Oct. 5 in Las Vegas in the Rebels' lone game of the week. He finished with four saves in the game while facing a total of 11 shots from the Antelopes, including one from point blank range. Harding has also moved into third place all-time at UNLV for career shutouts with 10.
The Rebels, who tied last year's win total with their seventh victory of the season against Grand Canyon to move to 7-2-1 overall, return to action on Friday night with a 5 pm contest at No. 24 Seattle.
