2014 UNLV Volleyball Weekly Notes - Week Fourteen
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels enter the final week of the 2014 regular season with one home match remaining - a "Senior Night" affair Tuesday against the San Diego State Aztecs at 6:00 pm. UNLV will recognize its four seniors - Allison Davies, Daryn Glenn, Jayme Jacinto and Katlin Winters - for their contributions to the volleyball program as student-athletes.
The Rebels were predicted to finish seventh by the Mountain West head coaches, but their 13-4 conference record has sewn up at least a share of second place in the 11-team league. They lead the third-place Wyoming Cowgirls (12-5) by one match. Wyoming will conclude its season Wednesday night against the #9 Colorado State Rams, who claimed their sixth straight conference title over the weekend.

ONE WIN CHANGED HISTORY & SET A MILESTONE: The UNLV Rebels took the expression "kill two birds with one stone" to a new level this past Wednesday night. With help from UNLV's victory on the road against the Utah State Aggies, the 2014 edition rewrote the program's single-season record book for both overall (25) and conference (13) wins. Besides those two record breakers, Rebel head coach Cindy Fredrick registered her 500th career triumph.
The win also upped a trio of single-season road records that were rewritten this season: overall "true" road wins (10); conference road wins (seven) and both overall and conference road winning streaks (seven apiece).
REWRITING ONE RECORD AFTER ANOTHER: The UNLV Rebels, who sit 25-7 overall and 13-4 in the Mountain West, have one match left in the 2014 regular season. With the help of the previous 32 contests, UNLV has broken numerous records set by its predecessors, namely the 2007 squad that won the MW Championship and played in the NCAA Tournament.
25: Overall Wins = broke 2007's record of 24.19: Most Three-Set Matches = tied 2000's & 2006's record of 1917: Most Three-Set Wins = broke 2006's record of 13.15: Most Road-Neutral Wins = tied 1984's record of 1513: Conference Wins = broke 2007's record of 12.10: Road Wins = broke 2007's record of 7.7: Conference Road Wins = broke 2005's & 20012's record of 5.7: Longest Road Winning Streak = broke 1778-79's record of 5.7: Longest Conference Road Winning Streak = broke 2007's record of 4
25 & UP CLUB: As of Sunday, Nov. 23, the UNLV Rebels were one of 20 volleyball programs in NCAA Division I to have cracked the 25-win barrier. UNLV, who sits at 25-7 on the year, and #9 Colorado State (28-2) are the only Mountain West squads to earn passage into the small, but highly distinguished club.
Western Kentucky (30-5) - a team that UNLV swept in Las Vegas the opening week of the season - is the only team to reach 30 wins, thus far, in 2014. Top-ranked Stanford (28-0), #4 Penn State (28-3), Dayton (28-5) and Hofstra (28-5) follow closely behind with 28 victories apiece.
The remaining squads with between 25 and 27 triumphs are #5 Washington (27-2), Towson (27-5), Seton Hall (27-6), #2 Wisconsin (26-2), #8 Florida State (26-2), Arkansas-Little Rock (26-4), Murray State (26-5), Denver (26-6), American (26-6), North Dakota (26-9), LIU Brooklyn (25-6), Marist (25-6) and Valparaiso (25-8).
In all, the Rebels have played to a 3-2 record in five matches against four of the 20 teams in the exclusive club. UNLV split its two outings against CSU, who was ranked #7 for both meetings, and it also defeated WKU and SHU, while it lost to then-#5 Washington.
MATCHING UP AGAINST THE BEST: The UNLV Rebels own an RPI of 57 as of Monday, Nov. 24. UNLV jumped four spots in this week's ranking after sitting 61st overall last week.
The Rebels have played to a 5-6 record in 11 matches against seven foes that are in the top 100 of Monday's RPI release. They split their two meetings against Colorado State, who is 16th in rankings behind a 28-2 record, and notched two wins over #83 New Mexico (18-12) and one apiece over #32 Western Kentucky (30-5) and #56 Seton Hall (27-6). They suffered a pair of losses to both #40 CSUN (18-8) and #69 Wyoming (23-7) and another to #4 Washington (27-2).
The Scarlet & Gray had been perfect in 20 straight contests against teams ranked 100th or below until. it lost to Boise State last Saturday night (Nov. 22). The Broncos (18-11) sit 115th in this week's RPI.
DUO MOVE TO THE TOP OF THE LINE: The UNLV Rebels have seen two of their own move up the program's career charts for matches and sets played. Daryn Glenn and Allison Davies began the year sitting on the outside of both categories, but with each match and every set played they crept up to the top.
Glenn became the Rebels' all-time leader in matches played with her appearance against the Boise State Broncos last Saturday night (Nov. 22). The senior surpassed Melody Nua, who played from 2005-08 and participated in 120 contests.
Davies, on the other hand, is deadlocked with Nua for second place with 120 matches apiece, but all of that will change Tuesday against San Diego State (Nov. 25).
In the sets played listing, Davies comes in second with 442 - but tied with Nua, while Glenn is fourth with 439. Madeline Westman, who finished her career in 2013 after a four years of play, sits atop the list with 448.
