LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the second time in her collegiate career UNLV's Allison Davies was recognized not only for her athletic prowess, but also for her success in the classroom. Davies was tabbed to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Eight First Team Thursday. Two years ago, Davies was a second-team selection.
The Eugene, Ore., native is majoring in accounting and carries a cumulative GPA of 3.87. Since her freshman season, Davies has been tabbed to three Fall Academic All-Mountain West Teams and earned as many MW Scholar-Athlete Awards.
As one of three team captains, Davies has helped the Rebels to a 20-6 overall record with the assistance of her play in the back row. She's recorded 358 digs - the 10th most in a single season at UNLV, which has translated to the 99th-best digs per-set average (4.42) in the latest NCAA statistical report. She has also contributed offensively with 60 assists and 21 aces.
For her career, she has etched her name three times in UNLV's career record book. Her highest placement is a second-place showing in digs (1,658). She sits fourth in sets played (420) and fifth in matches played (114).
"This is a great honor for Ally, as it represents the dedication she has had as a student-athlete for all four years," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "Ally has been such a dynamic player for us and her academic performance has been outstanding."
By virtue of her first-team selection, Davies is eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition.
To qualify for the academic award, a nominee must be a starter or an important reserve that has played in at least 50 percent of the contests with at least a 3.30 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Davies and the Rebels will play two road matches this week beginning with Thursday night's 7:00 pm MT (6:00 pm PT) contest at New Mexico in Albuquerque. An affair at Air Force follows Saturday at USAF Academy, Colo. (6:00 pm MT/5:00 pm PT).
