All About The Rebels
UNLV's eight-point lead a week ago in the conference standings dropped to just three after a disappointing final home weekend, in which it gave up two late goals for a 2-1 loss to Bakersfield, and having to settle for a 0-0 double-overtime tie with San Jose State on the Rebels' Senior Day. Despite that setback, UNLV still controls its destiny in its path to the WAC regular season championship title. A win on Sunday at Grand Canyon in the regular final clinches at least a share of the regular season title for the Rebels. It would clinch the top seed (and first round bye) in next week's conference tournament as well due to owning tiebreakers over every other team. If UNLV wins on Sunday, it will mark their first regular season championship since 1987 in the Big West.
Sunday's opponent, Grand Canyon, has been outscored 6-1 in the two meetings since the schools have been WAC members, a 3-0 UNLV win this year in Las Vegas (Oct. 5) and a 3-1 win in Phoenix for the Rebels on Nov. 3, 2013.
A win at GCU would give UNLV its first undefeated road record in conference play since 1985 (3-0), and the most road wins overall (six) since that year as well.
