FULLERTON, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (13-6, 7-2 Mountain West) lost a pitcher's duel 2-1 at No. 9 Cal State Fullerton (11-7) on Tuesday at Goodwin Field.
UNLV starting pitcher Kenny Oakley allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six while walking one in 7.0 innings of work, which give him his third quality start of the year.
The Rebels took a 1-0 lead against the Titans in the third inning when Matt McCallister scored an unearned run on a Justin Jones sacrifice fly.
Cal State Fullerton tied the game in the fifth inning and added another run in the seventh to take the lead.
Joey Lauria pitched one inning of relief for UNLV and struck out the only three batters he saw.
Jones, T.J. White, Erik VanMeetren, A.J. Hernandez and McCallister each recorded a hit for the Rebels in the game.
As a pitching staff, UNLV has recorded a quality start in 18 of its 19 games this year and the only non-quality start was when Oakley didn't pitch the minimum number of innings (6.0) in a predetermined start against UC Riverside.
UNLV will return to Las Vegas and host North Dakota (2-9) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. Fans that are unable to attend the game can watch the action live on UNLVRebels.com through to the Mountain West Network.
