LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (16-7/9-3 Mountain West), which is coming off of a series victory over conference foe San Diego State, is now ranked 25th by Perfect Game, the publication announced Monday.
The Rebels, who were ranked No. 29 by Collegiate Baseball News earlier this year, relied on their starting pitching throughout the weekend to claim two victories over the Aztecs.
UNLV started the year with a four-game sweep of Central Michigan and entered the first poll of the regular season done by Collegiate Baseball. The Rebels dropped out of the rankings after being swept at Tennessee.
Last year UNLV was ranked No. 25 by Collegiate Baseball in week four, following its sweep at No. 9 Stanford. That week it was also ranked No. 21 by Baseball America, No. 28 by NCBWA and No. 24 by Perfect Game.
Before 2013, the last time the program was ranked was during the regular season was May 28, 2003, when the Rebels were No. 15 by Baseball America, No. 20 by Collegiate Baseball News and No. 20 in the Sports Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll.
UNLV will now host Utah Valley (7-16) on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. PT. The Rebels' game with Utah Valley will be a "$2 Dollar Tuesday" at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. Fans can order their tickets online in advance for only $2 and can enjoy a beer at the ballpark for the same price. UNLV will then be on then be on the road at Nebraska (March 28-30), Creighton (March 31), Fresno State (April 4-6) and Arkansas (April 8-9) before returning home to host San Jose State on April 11.
Fans can purchase their tickets to any home games online and save money. Visit UNLVtickets.com to purchase a ticket for just $5 and select the "Free Will Call" option. The deal expires three hours before the first pitch of every home game. Prices for individual games are $8 for adults, $6 for faculty/staff and seniors and $5 for groups of 15 or more (group tickets must be purchased at least one day in advance for the game). Children 12 and under and UNLV students with a valid student I.D. are free.
