LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Junior pitcher Erick Fedde was voted to the 2014 District 8 Capital OneĀ® Academic All-District Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced Thursday.
The Las Vegas native has a cumulative grade point average of 3.32 while majoring in communications. This season, the starting right-hander boasts an 8-2 record to go with a conference-best 1.76 ERA. He also leads the league with 82 strikeouts and has made 11 consecutive quality starts in 2014 and 12 dating back to last season.
It is Fedde's first Capital OneĀ® Academic honor and he will advance to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, which will be announced on Friday, May 30. He becomes the first Rebel to be named to the District 8 All-Academic Team since 2012 when Trevor Kirk was honored.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs throughout the year. Players who are starters or important reserves on their teams and are at least in their second year at a school and hold at least a 3.30 career GPA are eligible for the academic awards, which are voted on by sports information directors from across the nation.
UNLV's district includes four-year institutions from the states of California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Idaho and Nevada.
