Complete Louisville Slugger All-America List
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV ace Erick Fedde has been named a Louisville Slugger Second-Team All-American, Collegiate Baseball announced on Thursday.
The 2014 Mountain West Pitcher of the year is the 14th Rebel to earn All-America honors and is the first since Tanner Peters was a third-team selection in 2011.
"It's unfortunate what happened to Erick in terms of his injury," UNLV head coach Tim Chambers said. "But he put up All-American numbers all year and it is nice to see him get recognized despite missing the last few weeks. He is one of the players that I really think has changed the face of our program. "
Fedde (8-2, 1.76 ERA) pitched at a very high level for UNLV and ranked among the nation's elite in wins, earned run average, strikeouts and innings pitched before his season was cut short due to injury. The junior righty put together a string of 11 quality starts, never allowing more than three earned runs in a game all year. He became the third pitcher in school history to take home Mountain West Pitcher of the Year honors.
"Really excited about the honor," Fedde said. "But there is no way I could have accomplished it without the help and support of my teammates."
The Las Vegas High School product threw his second career complete game against San Diego State on March 21 and recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in that game. His 1.76 ERA in 2014 is the second lowest in school, only behind Peters who had a 1.50 ERA in 2011.
Fedde has won 21 games in three seasons with the Rebels and surpassed the 230 career strikeout mark earlier this year in an seven-strikeout performance against New Mexico, where he allowed one run on nine hits, which helped UNLV capture an 11-2 victory over the Lobos.
