UNLV To Recommend Contract Extension For Coach Chambers

June 27, 2014

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Director of Athletics Tina Kunzer-Murphy has agreed to terms on a new five-year contract for head baseball coach Tim Chambers.

The terms will include an incentive package that will provide additional compensation opportunities based upon academic and athletic success.

Chambers would have been entering his final year on his current contract, which was for five seasons when he was hired at UNLV in June of 2010.

"We are excited about the future of Rebel baseball with coach Chambers at the helm," Kunzer-Murphy said. "Tim has done an outstanding job of putting together a great baseball program and one that we are all proud of. We had a great 2014 season and we are looking forward to many more years of success on and off the field."

Chambers has compiled a four-year record of 132-101 with the Rebels. He became the fastest coach in program history to reach the 100-win mark with a victory over Central Michigan in 2014.

"I am so happy to be the head coach of the UNLV baseball program and to be locked in for five more years," Chambers said. "I appreciate the confidence the administration has in me and my coaching staff. We had a vision coming in four years ago and while we have had a tremendous amount of success, we still have some work to do and some goals to accomplish."

Chambers helped guide the Rebels to a regular-season Co-Mountain West championship last season and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, which was UNLV's first appearance since 2005.

In addition, Chambers and his staff have recruited elite talent, including Las Vegas native Erick Fedde, who was the No. 18 overall pick in the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft as one of four Rebels taken earlier this month.
