Soccer America Tabs Rebels At No. 23

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's soccer team received its second national ranking of the week on Tuesday, as the Rebels enter the Soccer America Top 25 poll at No. 23. This is the first appearance for UNLV in the Soccer America poll since a No. 17 ranking in the Sept. 17, 1992 poll. UNLV was also ranked No. 23 by TopDrawerSoccer.com in their top-25 poll, which was released on Monday.

The Rebels have began the year with five straight victories, before having to settle for a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Detroit on Sunday afternoon. UNLV's win over the 14th-ranked Retrievers on Sept. 12 was the first for the team over a ranked opponent since Sept. 2, 2009. They were also the highest-ranked victory for the Rebels since a 6-1 win over No. 5 Connecticut on Sept. 23, 2001.

The Rebels will have one game this week, a Saturday road contest at Gonzaga at 1 pm in Spokane, Wash.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: UNLV currently has the fourth-best record in the nation at 5-0-1 (.917) ... The Rebels have not allowed a goal at home this season, and are tied for first in the nation with four shutouts ... UNLV's current shutout streak of 419:57 minutes is the second-longest in the nation, behind Army (462:29) ... UNLV is tied for fourth in the nation in total goals (15) ... Senior forward Salvador Bernal is third in the nation in total goals with six, and fourth in total points with 13 ... Head Coach Rich Ryerson will be on the Harvey Hyde radio show on Thursday night at 6 pm on KSHP 1400 AM.
