2014 William H. Tucker Intercollegiate First Day Results
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 11 UNLV men's golf team is in fifth place after two rounds at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which is being played at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,562 yards). The Rebels shot an opening-round 7-over-par 295, then followed with a second-round 3-over 291 on Friday.
Two-time defending tournament champion and host New Mexico holds a 15-shot lead at 22-under 554 after two rounds of 11-under 277. San Diego State and Texas Tech are the only other teams under par for the tournament and are in second and third place at 7- and 5-under, respectively. New Mexico State is fourth at 5-over, while the Rebels are 10-over. The tournament features 15 teams.
Gavin Green, who is the two-time defending individual medalist at the event, leads all players at 9-under 135 after rounds of 7-under 65 and 2-under 70. San Diego State's Xander Schauffele is second at 8-under, while two golfers are tied for third at 6-under.
UNLV is led by senior Kurt Kitayama and sophomore Taylor Montgomery, who are both tied for 12th at even-par 144. Kitayama shot 2-over 74 during the first round and followed with a 2-under 70 in the second, while Montgomery shot 71-73.
Other Rebel team scores: senior Carl Jonson (79-70) is tied for 40th at 5-over 149, freshman Ben Davis (74-78) is tied for 55th at 8-over 152 and junior Zane Thomas (76-79) is tied for 73rd at 11-over 155. Competing as individuals: freshman John Oda (76-70) is tied for 21st at 2-over 146 and junior AJ McInerney (77-77) is tied for 66th at 10-over 154. There are a total of 92 individuals.
