Student-Athlete Welcome Back Celebration Held

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Athletics Student-Athlete Welcome Back Celebration for the start of the 2014-15 academic year was held at Cox Pavilion on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

After a video highlighting the 2013-14 seasons, UNLV Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy welcomed the attendees, which included all current student-athletes, all current athletics department staff and many dignitaries.

After some additional remarks, Kunzer-Miurphy then introduced UNLV President Donald Snyder who delivered his address to the student-athletes.

Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs Darryl Seibel recognized the sponsors of the Governor's Series: NV Energy Senior Vice President Tony Sanchez and Barrick Gold Vice President Michael Brown and the Bill Ireland Award was given to UNLV graduate and women's soccer alum Jenn Wolfe.

Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance Eric Toliver introduced the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which is made up of a member of each of UNLV's sports programs. Each representative introduced their sports' coaches and teammates along with some highlights from the 2013-14 season. Those reps are:

• Iris Munguia (cross country)
• Alexis Pearson (dance - Rebel Girls)

• Dana Finkelstein (women's golf)
• Kyle Mellies (men's soccer)
• Kristen Sankey (women's soccer)
• Alyssa Cordova (softball)
• Luke James (men's swimming)
• Michele Serra (women's swimming)
• Ozzy Abraham (men's tennis)
• Alexis Garrett (women's tennis)
• Summer Crawley (track & field)
• Sadie Stutzman (volleyball)

Senior Associate Athletics Director/SWA Lisa Kelleher then closed the program by inviting all of the guests to take photos with the Fremont Cannon, Hey Reb and the Governor's Series trophy, singing the school's fight song and then enjoying dinner provided by Road Kill Grill BBQ.
