UNLV had to settle for a tie for the first time this season after tying the game midway through the second half, as the Rebels and CSU Bakersfield played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Sunday night in WAC men's soccer action from Main Soccer Field. This was the second straight meeting the teams played to a tie, following the championship game of the 2014 WAC Tournament which also ended officially in a 1-1 tie, though the Rebels won the penalty kick shootout to claim the title.

"This was a big game for them after we beat them in the tourney last year," said UNLV head coach Rich Ryerson. "They got a good goal in the first half, then we had a good goal in the second half, Danny (Musovski was great tonight, he was very threatening all night. I felt the entire team overall played very well, this was one of our best games of the year, with the effort and how hard we battled."

UNLV are now 8-3-1 on the year, 2-1-1 in league play following the game. That gives the Rebels seven points in the conference standings and four for their weekend trip after opening with a 1-0 victory at San Jose State on Friday. They now trail co-leaders Utah Valley and Seattle by just two points, as both teams are 3-1. The Roadrunners saw their record move to 4-3-3, 1-1-1 in the conference.

The Rebels dominated the action in the first half, taking a total of eight shots in the opening 45 minutes. CSU Bakersfield was limited to just one shot, but that one shot would result in a goal as Julian Zamora headed in a cross in the 33rd minute for a 1-0 advantage.

UNLV would tie the game in the 65th minute when the Rebels stole the ball near midfield. Musovski brought the ball up, dribbled though several defenders before sending in a shot from 22 yards out. That goal would spark the Rebel attack, leading to four shots on goal over the next 15 minutes. However, Oscar Gloveus, goalkeeper for the Roadrunners, came up big for the home team by stopping all four shots he faced over that period, including a pair of impressive leaping saves to keep the game tied.

CSUB came back near the end of the second half with a few attempts, but neither team could find a goal and the game would go to overtime, the first extra time contest of the year for the Rebels. In the first overtime period, The Roadrunners held a 4-1 edge on shots, which was then reversed by the Rebels in the second overtime period. That included a pair of shots in the final minute off back-to-back corner kicks. Both shots were wide though, the final attempt in the final seconds, leading to the 1-1 final score.

UNLV's final shot margin was 20-11, and 8-6 on shots on goal. Corner kicks were also in the Rebels' favor at 8-3. Richard Garness recorded four saves in goal for the Rebels, while Gloveus finished with seven for the night.

The Rebels are off until Sunday, Oct. 18, when it hosts Incarnate Word at 1 pm in a conference contest at Johann Memorial Field. That will be part of a double-header with the women's team, who play that morning at 10:30 am.
