For the fourth straight year the Lady Rebels will open their season with a contest in the Thomas & Mack Center, as they host Southern Utah at 3 pm on Saturday. UNLV has never lost a season opener under eighth-year head coach Kathy Olivier, and in fact have won the last eighth openers, dating back to the 2007-08 campaign.
Both teams have alot to replace from a year ago. The Lady Rebels lost 64.9% of its scoring (45.6 ppg) from a year ago. On the other hand, Southern Utah is down seven players, and 89.4% of its scoring from a season ago. It's top returning scorers top out at 6.1 and 6.0 ppg.
The Lady Rebels will bring an active roster of 10 players into Saturday's contest, as sophomore Alyssa Anderson is out for the year with a torn ACL, while junior guard Diamond Major retired from the sport in October due to concussions suffered in her career.
The game against the Thunderbirds will be the first of a month-long homestand for the Lady Rebels, who will play six games in Las Vegas before playing six straight on the road in the month of December.
