2015 UNLV Softball Weekly Notes - Week Seven

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels head south down I-15 for the second straight week, but this venture will be to kick off Mountain West play against the San Diego State Aztecs. The three-game series begins Friday and runs through Sunday at the SDSU Softball Stadium. Games one and two are set for 6:00 pm first pitches, while Sunday's is scheduled to begin at noon.

UNLV played at SDSU's San Diego Classic II in nearby Santee last weekend. Unfortunately, the Rebels went 0-4 with losses to Connecticut, Weber State, New Mexico State and then-#15/13 Baylor.

FOLLOW THE STREAM: The UNLV Rebels will have two of their three road games - Saturday and Sunday - at San Diego State streamed in conjunction with the Mountain West Network. Links to view both affairs will be available at UNLVRebels.com. In addition, all three games will have live stats and those, too, can be found at UNLVRebels.com.

MOUNTAIN WEST STARTS: The UNLV Rebels have gone 7-8 in Mountain West season-opening contests dating back to the Conference's inaugural campaign in 2000.

In fact, UNLV is 5-10 in its first MW game that occurs on the road. Seven of those 15 were also season openers, which the Rebels own a 3-4 mark in those affairs.

On the flip side, the Scarlet & Gray sits 6-9 in its first conference action in Las Vegas. UNLV is an even 4-4 in eight of those that kicked off league play.

ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels return to Las Vegas to open up their Mountain West home schedule against the New Mexico Lobos. UNLV and UNM will play a three-game series at Eller Media Stadium that begins March 27 and ends two days later on March 29.

LOOKING BACK A WEEK: The UNLV Rebels went 0-4 last week at the San Diego Classic II, which was hosted by San Diego State and held at Sportsplex USA in Santee, Calif.

UNLV, who was without some key contributors both offensively and in the circle, suffered losses to Connecticut, Weber State, New Mexico State and then-#15/13 Baylor in a three-day span.

The Rebels were led offensively by Samantha Juarez, who hit .417 with five hits in 12 at-bats. Juarez scattered four singles and one triple to go along with one run scored.

As a team, the Scarlet & Gray was out hit .158 (15-for-95) to .330 (33-for-100).

The pitching staff was led by Sydney Mundell, who was making her first appearances as a Rebel after overcoming various injuries. Mundell made three relief appearances for a total of 9.0 innings. She amassed an ERA of 1.56 after allowing two runs off of nine hits. She struck out five against three walks.

Unfortunately, the starting pitcher in each affair was saddled with the loss. Janine Petmecky went 0-3, while teammate Francesca Foti was 0-1.
