April 20, 2015 RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) -- No. 19 UNLV women's golf is tied for third after the first day of the Mountain West Championship, which is being played at the par-72, 6,324 yard, Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills Country Club. The Rebels turned in an 11-over-par 299 in the opening round on Monday and are tied with in-state rival Nevada, Reno.
San Diego State leads all teams and turned in an even-par 288 in the first round. San Jose State sits second at 5-over 293 and Boise State is fifth at 13-over 301.
The Aztecs' Milagros Chaves leads all individuals after posting score of 6-under 66. SJSU's Megan Osland is second and she turned in a score of 3-under. Freshman Harley Dubsky leads UNLV and is tied for third after turning in a score of even-par 72 in the opening round. She is tied with SDSU's Paige Spiranac and New Mexico's Manon Molle.
Also competing for the Rebels is Dana Finkelstein, who ranks sixth in the country according to Golfweek, and she is tied for ninth at 2-over 74 following the first round. Sophomore Avery French is tied for 14th at 3-over 75 and freshman Mackenzie Raim and senior Mayko Chwen Wang are tied for 29th at 6-over 78.
Second round action will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday and UNLV is paired with San Diego State and San Jose State. Wang will tee off at 8:30 a.m. followed by Raim, French, Finkelstein and Dubsky.
