June 9, 2015 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV junior outfielder Joey Armstrong became the first Rebel selected in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday as the Arizona Diamondbacks picked him in the 10th round as the 286th overall pick.
"It feels great to be drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks," Armstrong said. "I am really excited to get my professional career started. UNLV baseball turned me into the player I am today and I am super appreciative for the opportunity to play college baseball in Las Vegas."
Armstrong becomes the fourth Rebel to be taken in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft in the last three years. In 2013, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Buddy Borden in the seventh round. In 2014, two Rebel were taken in the first ten rounds as Erick Fedde was the Washington National's first round pick and John Richy was selected in the third round by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He opened the season by reaching base in the first 36 games and played in 54 total games. Armstrong finished with a batting average of .277, scored 34 runs and recorded 26 runs batted in to go with two home runs.
In three years at UNLV, Armstrong has a career batting average of .301, has scored 112 runs and has recorded 86 RBI. He has hit six home runs, seven triples, and 25 doubles.
