2014-15 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -
UNLV had a total of 56 student-athletes named to the 2014-15 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award. The 56 Rebels honored are the most in school history and three more than the previous best of 53 tallied during the 2008-09 and 2010-11 campaigns.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a MW-sponsored sport.
UNLV has had at least 43 recipients earn the award 10 of the past 12 years, including eight straight dating back to 2007-08.
The Scarlet & Gray were paced by the women's swimming & diving team and its record-setting haul of 14 representatives -- the second highest in the MW.
Rebel volleyball produced the Conference's highest output for the sport with eight honorees. The women's soccer and women's track & field programs were not far off volleyball's figure with seven and six members, respectively.
The football program added four of its own to the list, while men's golf, women's tennis and softball had three apiece. The haul for men's golf is tired for the teams most with the 2006-7 and 2013-14 squads.
In addition, men's basketball, women's basketball and women's golf had two each, while one more came from both baseball and men's tennis.
Overall, a league-record 730 student-athletes were named Mountain West Scholar-Athlete, including 53 individuals with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
