Chambers To Take Medical Leave

July 9, 2015

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball head coach Tim Chambers is taking an indefinite medical leave of absence from the program because of an ongoing back ailment that will require him to undergo another back surgery, UNLV Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced Thursday.

Chambers, who was sidelined for 33 games last season because of the ailment, has had a history of back issues and underwent surgery following the 2012 season and twice during the 2015 season.

Associate head coach Stan Stolte will serve as the acting head coach in Chambers' absence.

In five seasons as head coach, Chambers has led the Rebels to a record of 157-132, a Mountain West Regular Season Championship and a NCAA tournament appearance, both in 2014. He was also named the MW Coach of the Year that year, became the fastest coach to reach 100 wins at UNLV and a total of 14 players have been drafted by MLB teams under his watch, including Erick Fedde, who became the third first-round draft pick in school history as he was selected as the 18th overall pick in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Washington Nationals.
